December 8th : Conference « Whisky stories », by Pierre Delignière
The stories around Scotch, the real registered name for Scottish whisky, brought together nearly thirty fans. The Scottish industry brings
in more than 6 billion pounds sterling (2022 figure, more than 7 billion in 2023) in exports for the benefit of the United Kingdom, while
the speaker was able in turn to tell the links between the Scottish elixir and the Highlands, Winston Churchill, the Shakleton expedition to
the Magnetic South Pole or even with Japan !
October 2023 :
October 27th : Conference « The mysteries of the Picts », by Anne Dietrich
60 people came to Plouhinec to listen to Anne Dietrich, archaeologist, talk to them about the Picts, this mysterious people who
inhabited Scotland before the arrival of the Romans, who never succeeded in conquering the country. In the absence of written
traces, but thanks to archeology, we can reconstruct the history of these ancient populations of Scotland.
September 2023 :
September 9th : Forum of local associations ( Audierne-Esquibien)
Rachel Mills, facilitator of the Brittany-Scotland English course, Corinne and Jean-Luc Riou, manned the association's stand at the
2023 Forum of Cap-Sizun associations : the opportunity to meet members and supporters.
September 2nd : Brittany-Scotland association Annual General Meeting
The general assembly of the association was held at the Mille-Club in Plouhinec, in the presence of Yvan Moullec, Mayor and Regional
Councilor of Brittany, Pascal Druon, Deputy Mayor in charge of Associations, and nearly around thirty members. The meeting was followed
by lunch at the restaurant “L’Annexe” at the port of Poulgoazec.
April 2023 :
April 28th : Conference « Robert Burns, the Scottish Bard », by Pierre Delignière, with Fañch Hascoët, harpist.
Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard, is celebrated around the world. Everyone can relate to his work as it is dense and penetrating,
from the celebration of nature to those of democracy and freedom. Pierre Delignière, president of Brittany-Scotland, recounts the life
of the great poet and sheds light on his most famous poems, while several musical breaks on the harp, inspired by Burns' songs, were
performed by Fañch Hascoët.
March 2023 :
March 31rd : Conference « Sailing around Scotland », by Andrew Pears and Mary Chapman
35 people shared the happiness of Andrew Pears and Mary Chapman, who humorously recounted their trip around Scotland aboard
their sailboat.
February 2023 :
February 24th : Songs and conference « De balades en ballades aux îles Hébrides d’Ecosse, by Alix Quoniam
40 people enjoyed listening to Alix Quoniam interpret and comment on the songs of the Hebrides Islands, on the occasion of the
release of her book-CD (available at the Ar Vro Bookstore in Audierne, from the association, or from the author ).
