Scottish economist Angus Deaton has won the Nobel Prize in economic sciences for his “analysis of consumption, poverty and welfare”.
He is therefore the tenth Scot to be honoured by the Nobel Prize, mainly in chemistry, physics or medicine. Among them, John MacLeod, for the discovery of insulin in 1923,
or Sir Alexander Fleming, for the discovery of penicillin in 1945.
